Many Nations is proud to announce that we are now member of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada!

“Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) is a member-driven association that unites, engages and leads the co-operative movement by advancing its priorities nationally and internationally, including through its membership in the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA). Our goals are to build bridges, break down barriers and create lasting opportunities for the Canadian co-operative sector.”

CMC is the umbrella association of Canadian co-operatives and mutuals. CMC promotes the co-op identity and helps the growth of the Canadian movement through networking, advocacy and co-op awareness. There are 7481 Co-ops in Canada and 53 CMC members currently.

Many Nations Financial started as a small not-for-profit organization in 1995, and over time we have grown to providing services to over 150 communities across the country. Structuring Many Nations as a co-operative has its advantages. As a co-operative, we can scale to increase its purchasing power, but also be responsive to its client shareholders or members. The co-op board is elected from client representatives and delegates. The client-driven board and management structure creates a high level of transparency that can be missing with other insurance brokers. Plus, client feedback is built into the structure, which means the business can respond to concerns and changing needs in a way that is responsive and relatively agile. Co-operatives play an important role in the Canadian economy. Federal policies, laws and regulations have a direct impact on the vitality of co-operatives and mutuals, which can affect the local economy and the achievement of their economic, social and environmental objectives. CMC regularly informs the federal government of the opportunities and concerns of the cooperative and mutual sector and ensures that their voices are heard at all levels. We are excited to now be a part of CMC!
